Continuing Education from Neal-Schuman’s Professional Education Network

San José State University School of Library and Information Science has a new partnership with the Neal-Schuman Professional Education Network to offer continuing education opportunities in the library and information science field. Members of the SJSU SLIS community are eligible for a 5% "early-bird" reduction in course fees, and SLIS receives a small commission for each course registration through our referral links and special codes. The money earned goes towards student scholarships and events. Registration may be completed online.

About the Neal-Schuman Professional Network

Neal-Schuman PEN provides continuing education and career growth programs for librarians through audio and web-based seminars and workshops, conducted by the field's most innovative and successful library professionals. Many of the presenters are Neal-Schuman authors and the topics are timely, thought-provoking, and designed for your convenience.

You can participate individually, and you also have the flexibility to integrate these learning opportunities into your library's staff development schedule. The programs and courses are accessible and convenient, and available for one affordable fee per location.

Neal-Schuman PEN programs showcase the profession's innovators and leaders, with an emphasis on best practices, collection development, smart operational strategies, and effective outreach. In addition, the course lineup also includes programs focusing on professional and management skills, helping you build leadership capacity and develop specialized programs to meet patron and community needs.

The current course lineup covers a diverse range of subjects, from building virtual teams and work groups to working effectively with your board of directors, virtual reference to using Web 2.0 tools with students. You'll also find workshops that cover how to write job descriptions, copyright issues, building diversity in school library collections, and creating on-line library events. The program lineup will grow continuously to address the topics, trends, and issues that matter most to the library community.
