Not Observed Insufficient Moderate Use Meets Criterion Completely
All new faculty members complete the Teaching Online course before they begin developing their courses and teaching for the School. In the course, they learn the importance of student-centered instruction and how to apply it in their own course sites and teaching. One unit of the course focuses specifically on the student perspective and includes results of a student survey on course satisfaction. Another unit focuses on effective discussions and the importance of identifying discussion questions that prompt meaningful responses.
The annual Faculty Institute provides another forum where the issue of student-centered instruction is discussed. The emphasis at this Institute is on practical, applicable tips that can be implemented by the faculty. Student centered instruction is also part of the SLIS T3 (Teaching Tips and Techniques) workshops held online throughout the year for faculty
