SLIS offers two kinds of online career webcasts, the Career Colloquia series and the Career Workshop series, and a monthly e-newsletter. Both the webcasts and the newsletters offer a wide range of helpful information and resources to help you investigate different LIS career options and the intricacies of preparing for and conducting a successful job search.
Career Colloquia webcasts are formal one-hour presentations by invited guest speakers who are experts in their field, and they share tips, experience, and advice for current students, new grads, and alumni who are finding their way in the LIS field.
Career Workshops are more informal, interactive, question and answer sessions with Jill Klees, SLIS Career Center Liaison. These are monthly workshops covering a variety of career-related topics, where Jill shares tips and best practices and answers participant questions.
The e-News & Opportunities newsletter is a monthly publication that shares career resources with current students, new grads, and alumni. The newsletter highlights current job openings in the campus job and internship database, SpartaJobs. As an archived tool, it can be used to research job titles and employers who are hiring SLIS students and provide an environmental scan of the job market during a given period of time.
