Course Description
Study of systems analysis applied to information organizations. Emphasis on the methods and tools for studying and designing the processes by which information centers deliver services.
Study of systems as applied to libraries and information centers. Application of methods for studying the means by which libraries deliver information services to users.

Student Learning Objectives
Course Objectives
- To develop the ability to analyze information-centered organizations and their component operations, objects, and services in a system context, encompassing the mission, objectives, resources, and constraints of the organization and the application of tools and perspectives of systems analysis.
- To develop the ability to design and evaluate information system and subsystem objects and strategies for improving operations, through the formulation and analysis of alternatives and consequences in a system context.
LIBR 243 supports the following SLIS Core Competencies:
- apply the fundamental principles of planning, management and marketing/advocacy.
This course also covers principles and practices of management as specifically applied to information environments; the application of diverse technologies to information management.

Course Requirements
This course is conducted entirely online using Blackboard, you must enroll on Blackboard between July 21 and August 22. The Blackboard access code will be sent to you on MySJSU messaging on July 20. You must also participate fully in all course activities which are detailed there for you.

Grading
Grading criteria include: Following directions and asking questions in a timely fashion, completing all work on time and at an acceptable graduate level, showing evidence in your work of critical thinking skills and learning (integrating reading, prior knowledge, and new information). No Incompletes will be given except for devastating illness or circumstances late in the semester.

The standard SJSU SLIS Grading Scale is utilized for all SLIS courses:
