Course Overview

This class concentrates on XML. We will exam its relationship to (X)HTML, build XML pages, and study the use of XSLT stylesheets for formatting XML data. As part of our study of XSLT we will work with filtering and with linking two or more XML files. We will also work with the DOM and Javscript to enable us to pull specific pieces of information from XML files. Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) will be studied as will serving XML files from the server using Cocoon.

Course Objectives

At the completion of the course the student will have:

  • Learned the basics of XML
  • Developed XML Web interfaces using CSS and XSLT
  • Worked with advanced features of XSLT such as filtering and linking two or more files
  • Used the DOM and Javscript to set up searching capabilities for an XML file or files
  • Worked with Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
  • Worked with Cocoon

The course supports the following objectives from the School's Teaching goal:
