One of the most important aspects of the design process is to develop the usability of a web site. Usability testing, while an considered an evaluation tool, is really a tool for designers to understand how to improve web site design and represents an important tool in the iterative design process. Heuristic evaluation, with links below, is a usability method developed by Jakob Nielson, a modern day usability guru.

Understanding how to provide web services means understanding how those services are "served up." Technically, this means understanding how web servers work and what options are available for the web master to exploit. This includes default settings, server-side applications, transaction logs provide a web master with useful tools to understand how best to present a web service.

Another important consideration of web sites is managing the files that constitute a web site. Please review this UNIX primer for discussion this week.
