Series Books for Young Adults

Reid, Louann and Ruth K.J. Cline. "Our Repressed Reading Addictions: Teachers and Young Adult Series Books." English Journal, March, 1997, p. 68-72.

"Making room for series books will help students make room for other reading interests and abilities constantly develop, and many readers move on from their obsession with series books to obsessions with other titles. R.R. Stine says that he is not ready to slow down yet, but realizes, "the kids will retire men, I think. Eventually, theyíll move on to something else and then I can take it easy." As teachers, we need to remember how our pleasure in reading developed and give our students opportunities to develop the same delight. We need to express, rather than repress, our delight. " p. 72.

A good bibliography of articles on the same topic is appended.
