Language Arts

Website: SCORE Site for Language Arts Curriculum. The San Diego County Office of Education hosts this "Schools of California Online Resources for Educators" site. Contains the Language Arts framework, resources for curriculum, model units and activities.

website: See Yahoo Magazine's Music on the Net index and 1998 Online Music Awards in many categories. Zillions of links to tune in.
website: MTV is a good online source for news, groups, awards, etc.
website: Rolling Stone Magazine has the scoop on much in the music industry.
website: AMG Music Styles is particularly good for R&B fans. It includes subgenres such as country-soul, Motown, Philly soul, funk, and Northern soul. Contains a massive database of biographies and discographies.
website: Bing's Old Skool Music Link Web Site is more historic for old-school funk, soul, and disco. A good place to learn the roots of the current R&B scene.

 

Country Music

• Try Country.com as a first choice for all types of information about the genre.

• For lyrics to many songs and chords for some classic songs plus other stuff, try The Roughstock Network.

Classical Music

website: Dave Lampson's Classical Net is for both the novice and the longtime classical music fan. "The site offers the basic classical repertoire, a CD-buying guide and CD recommendations, a composer database, and a Reading Room that features a list of suggested books." (according to Yahoo Magazine)

website: Music Boulevard's Classical Insites offers a thorough Conservatory section that explains classical-music periods and genres in nontechnical language. There are also in-depth studies of key classical pieces, real-time chate, cybercasts, and message boards (according to Yahoo Magazine)

Jazz

website: Jazz Central Station is a good starting point for the jazz newbie. No other site pulls together as much info on jazz in such an attractive and navigable manner. It also inclusdes a valuable history of jazz by Dan Morgenstern. (recommended by Yahoo Magazine)

website: The Red Hot Jazz Archive is a music historian's paradise devoted to jazz of the pre-sing era. Biographies, discographies, and thoughtful essays of figures such as Kid Ory, Jelly Roll Morton, and King Oliver (recommended by Yahoo Magazine)

 

Movies

• See CNN Showbiz Movies for the good stuff.

• For a good review of teen movies, so popular in Spring, 99 plus a good list of teen movies from past decades, see the news article Youth must be served! (w9f.html)

Web site: The WebMuseum is hosted by a number of institutions all over the world and contains catalogs and pictures of various works online.

Web site: You can't resist visiting the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. and its section on education.
