Title

Windows Vista and DB/TextWorks

Q: I am running Inmagic DB/TextWorks 11.0 under Windows Vista. When I try to access 'Help Topics' on the Help menu, I get the following error message: "Failed to launch help". How can I fix this?

A: This has to do with the fact that Microsoft chose to not include support in Vista for the type of Help file that DB/TextWorks 11.0 uses. (See support.microsoft.com/?kbid=917607.)

As a workaround, you can manually download and install WinHlp32.exe, which will add support for Help (which consequently will allow you to use the 'Help Topics' in DB/TextWorks 11.0): Below are the instructions for installing WinHlp32.exe:

  1. Go to the following URL:
    go.microsoft.com/fwlink/LinkID=82148

  2. You will need to validate your Windows installation. To do so, click on the "Continue" button and walk through the validation process.

  3. After validating Windows, you will have the opportunity to download one of two files:
    Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu
    or
    Windows6.0-KB917607-x64.msu

If you are running the regular 32-bit version of Windows Vista (most people will fall in this category), then download the following file: Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu.

If you are running the 64-bit version of Windows Vista, then download the following file: Windows6.0-KB917607-x64.msu.

  4. After downloading the file, double click on it to run the installer.

  5. After the installer has completed, try accessing the Help Topics in DB/TextWorks 11.0.

The Help Topics should now come up successfully.

Q: I am running Inmagic DB/TextWorks 11.0 under Windows Vista. When using the default record-entry form, text displays unreadably small in the text-entry fields. How do I fix this?

A: You can change the default font size.
Choose Tools -> Options -> Display -> Set Text Font, and select the font options you want.
