Electronic Lists
| Subscribing to a List | Unsubscribing from a List | Managing Subscription Options |
Electronic Lists are topical electronic mail discussion groups in which you may participate as an active speaker or as a passive reader. You must subscribe to lists to receive the conversations and reply to the sender or to the entire list of subscribers.
The School of Library and Information Science maintains three lists:
- slisadmin: The official School of Library and Information Science list for administrative information. All students must subscribe to slisadmin in order to receive critical administrative information. Note: Unlike the other lists, students cannot send notes to this list. Only SLIS administration / faculty / staff can post notes to slisadmin. [Hotmail users: see Hotmail users not Receiving E-mail for information about turning off spam filtering.]
- quickslis: A list dedicated to practical information sharing for SLIS students.
- alumni: A list dedicated to alumni interaction.
Slisadmin is the only required list for students. Subscribing to other lists is optional.
Be selective when subscribing to lists. Some electronic discussion groups generate an enormous number of messages.

Sending Messages to the List
Messages to all subscribers of the list must be sent to the proper address. See instructions for sending messages to the list.
In most e-mail lists, all subscribers can post messages. However, this is not true of slisadmin. Only administrators, faculty and office staff can post to slisadmin.
