Instructions for Downloading Office Compatibility Pack

PC Users

If you use older versions of MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access (any version prior to MS Office 2007) you need to install the compatibility pack that lets users open new versions of the associated files.

Note: The Microsoft site encourages you to install critical updates to your PC prior to installing the compatibility pack.

Mac Users

Microsoft's Office 2008 for Mac uses the new Open XML file formats (docx, xlsx, pptx). Students using Office 2008 for Mac do not need to do anything special.

Users running Office 2004 for Mac (or Office X for Mac) will need to use the following Open XML converter to convert docx, pptx, or xlsx files into the older file format:

When a Mac user receives a docx, xlsx, or pptx file they will need to use the above converter. They will then be able to open in Office 2004 for Mac or Office X for Mac.
