Instructions for Downloading QuickTime

Note: If you experience difficulty in using the QuickTime, see our QuickTime Tips.

The latest version as of August 11, 2009, is version 7 for both Windows and Mac OS X.

Windows Users

  1. Go to the following URL: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ link goes to non-SJSU web site (opens in new window)
  2. Select the appropriate QuickTime version appropriate to your computer's operating system by clicking the appropriate radio button. Enter your email address in the Email Address field and click the Free Download Now button.

  3. When prompted with a popup box that asks "Do you want to run this file?", click on the "Run" button. (Some browsers may require you to first save the file and then run it from the location it was downloaded to.)

  4. When prompted with a popup box that asks "Do you want to run this software?", click on the "Run" button.

Mac Users

QuickTime is pre-installed on all Apple computers. Please make sure you have the latest version:

  1. Open a Finder Window and navigate to the Applications folder.
  2. Locate QuickTime in the Applications list and double-click it to open the software.
  3. On the top left of your window, click QuickTime Player > Update Existing Software.
  4. Software Update will then open. If your version of QuickTime is not the most current one, you will then be instructed to install it
