Look over the "San José Executive MLIS program" and "Current Student" sections of our SLIS Web site. We encourage you to get comfortable with the contents of these pages as they contain a tremendous amount of information that you will need to know while you are in SLIS. |

Subscribe to SLISadmin (and other lists, if desired). SLIS does not send information through the mail. Instead, faculty and staff post important announcements to SLIS students on our SLISadmin listserv. If you aren't subscribed to SLISadmin, you will miss these critical announcements, so we require that you subscribe to this electronic list. |

Request an ANGEL account on or after May 10, 2010. SLIS instructors and students use the ANGEL online course software (Learning Management System) used by SLIS instructors and students. This is where you go to access your class content, your grades and class discussions. You will need to request an Angel account before you begin the cohort program. You will be emailed a password which you use to log on to Angel. |

Bookmark the SLIS21 blog. This blog deals mostly with current registration or curriculum issues, and students may also post questions to our Assistant Director there. You can subscribe to a RSS feed (see RSS explained) to receive the latest updates as they are posted. |

Monitor MySJSU (http://my.sjsu.edu) regularly. Students use their MySJSU Student Center web page to view messages, receive class-specific Angel access codes, add or drop classes, handle payments, view grades, etc. Please log on to your MySJSU account regularly and check it for messages from the University and from your instructors, especially in the week before classes begin. |

Explore our SLIS Media Productions offerings. We have a rich multimedia collection that students can access on the Internet. Dr. Sandra Hirsh, our director, does a Director's Forum twice a year. We also run a Colloquia series, and there are videos available about graduation, our student associations, internships, LIBR 289, etc. These offerings will give you good input into what is going on at our school.
Please also check out the News and Happenings sections on our SLIS home page to see what students and faculty are up to. |

Pay tuition fees. Your classes are pre–determined and therefore you do not need to worry about registration. We will enroll you in the appropriate classes. When you are enrolled, we will send you an e–mail. After you receive this e–mail, you can locate your payment deadlines in the "Finances" section of your MySJSU Student Center Web page. Please note that tuition payment deadlines may be as short as a few days after you are registered for a class. Pay your fees on time or your classes will be automatically dropped. |

Obtain your class textbooks. A month before classes begin, you will be able to find out what kind of textbooks (if any) are required for your classes. Some SLIS faculty do not use textbooks. On the fall 2010 Textbook Selections web page, you can choose the courses for which you have been registered and begin to obtain your books. Consider ordering through the SLIS eBookstore (referral fees go to the SLIS scholarship fund). Other textbook sources include the campus bookstore, publishers, or other online booksellers. |

Check for your course syllabus/greensheet. Although instructors have no requirement to post their syllabus (greensheet) before the first day of class, many choose to do so. You may be able to access your course syllabus to find out how the course will be run, what the assignments and deadlines are, etc. If your class isn't linked yet, you can check again at a later date, or you can look for your instructor's course on a previous semester's posting. Syllabi on the LIBR 200, 202 and 204 core classes are usually only updated a bit from semester to semester. |

View our Orientation. SLIS will not have an onsite orientation for Fall 2010. Instead, you will receive an e-mail with a link to a video student orientation that will contain a welcome from Director Sandra Hirsh and our faculty, an overview of our online technologies, information about how to access King Library resources, etc.
