Graduation Ceremonies: Spring 2010 Information

There are two graduation activities:

  1. SJSU Commencement – (May 29, 2010) held at SJSU Spartan Stadium for all graduates (undergraduate and graduate students)
  2. SLIS Convocation in San José – May 15, 2010

Graduates from August 2009, December 2009 and May 2010 are invited to participate in the SLIS Convocation ceremony either in person or virtually. The names of all graduates will be called.

SJSU Commencement

SJSU Commencement will be on May 29, 2010. Parking in campus parking garages that day will be free.

SJSU Commencement is held at Spartan Stadium. All graduates, including distance students, are invited to attend. Students who attend the morning ceremony will be able to collect a program from their chairs. The program lists all the SJSU graduates including those in our program. Degree recipients who do not attend the ceremony may obtain a free program beginning the week following Commencement at the President's Office (Tower Hall 206). SLIS Convocation

Business casual attire is encouraged for both students and guests.

Commencement Speaker

The Commencement Speaker will be announced at a later date.

General Information

Graduates do not need a ticket. Your first (1) guest ticket is $10. Each additional ticket is $25, children under 12 years old are $10. There is NO LIMIT to the number of tickets you may purchase. Tickets will be sold at the door, $30 for each adult and $15 for each child under 12 years old. Tickets may be purchased in advance online at our SLIS Store. Children under 18 months may also attend, free of charge.

Tickets purchased after April 26, 2010, will be available for pick-up at "Will Call" on May 15, 2010 at the event.

**Please Note: The $10 "Discount Ticket" will not be available at the door.

You must do steps 1, 2 and 3 below. Step 4 is optional.

  1. RSVP for the San José convocations before April 30, 2010. (link available on Feb. 1, 2010)
  2. Convocation Program Book form. (link available on Feb. 1, 2010)
  3. Send a high resolution JPG "Head Shot" photo of yourself, along with your full name to the following email: Rhonda Dahlgren
  4. Purchase tickets for your guest at the SJSU SLIS online store. (tickets available on Feb. 1, 2010)

NOTE: We accept American Express, MasterCard and Visa in our online store. Sorry, we cannot accept debit cards.

SLIS Convocation in San José

The SLIS Convocation will be held in San José on May 15th, at Parkside Hall. It will start at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Graduates should arrive between 11:30 and no later than 12:30 p.m. to check in and begin lining up. All graduating students must check in at the registration table upon arrival. The processional will begin at 1:00 p.m. The ceremony should last about two hours. The reception begins after the ceremony and will end at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Parking is available at the Convention Center for a fee. Alternative parking is available across from the Convention Center. There is free parking in the Market & San Salvador lot at 325 S. Market St. See www.sjdowntownparking.com/parking_map.phplink outside www.sjsu.edu. Please be aware parking meters are enforced on Saturdays.

Photographs

Convocation photos will be taken by Bob Knight Photographers. Everyone will be photographed. You will receive an information card to complete on convocation day. GradTrakTM allows graduates to receive their proofs via email within 24 hours after the end of the ceremony.

No helium balloons will be admitted into the graduation auditorium or the reception hall.
