Before the Semester Begins
A Subscribe to Slisadmin (and other lists, if desired).
B Request a Blackboard account. – Requests may be submitted now.
C Become part of SLISLife. There is a special group for MARA. [See also SLISLife tutorials.]
D View the SLIS21 blog, and bookmark it using RSS. [See RSS Explained.]
E Pay fees on time
Due dates may be as short as 2 days. See payment deadlines at Bursar's Office or look for your due date under 'Finances' after logging into MySJSU. Note: SLIS puts you into your classes and sends you an e-mail via MySJSU to let you know when you have been added to your classes.
F

Check the textbook selections for this semester. Your courses begin with 'mara' and will be part of the course list. For example if your course is mara 200-10 look for mara200-10 and you will find the mara course.

Begin obtaining your books. Consider ordering through the SLIS eBookstore (referral fees go to the SLIS scholarship fund). Other sources include the campus bookstore, publishers, or other online booksellers.

G

Sign up for Elluminate training. In order to get you started with MARA, there will be a one hour welcome session on August 11, 2008 held on the Elluminate Web conferencing platform. Sign up for Elluminate training earlier than August 11th so that you can participate in the August 11th welcome session.

Beginning August 4 we will start to introduce you to the technologies you'll be using in your classes. You will be added to a Blackboard site and will have four weeks in which to finish the material. More information will be sent to you via MYSJSU.

H Check for course web pages.
Although instructors have no requirement to post web pages or Blackboard sites before the first day of class, many choose to do so. If your class isn't linked yet, check back again on a later date.
I Login to MySJSU regularly to check for announcements from the University and from your instructors. This is especially important during the week before each semester begins.
J Consider joining a student organization such as SAASC. We hope to develop a student organization for records managers.
As the semester begins
