Digital Asset Manager
Seattle, WA USA
What I am doing now.
I work on a special project team at Corbis Images that produces all the photo and video content for the communications team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. My role on this agile team is Media Manager - essentially a Digital Librarian with a large hat collection.
A typical day might find me tracking bugs in the enterprise level DAM system, HP Autonomy MediaBin, that I run for our client, customizing features and metadata, ingesting and cataloging incoming assets, managing a temporary employee or intern, coordinating production steps with fellow team members, fulfilling client requests for research, performing user training, evaluating search terms and editing our custom controlled vocabulary, adding new users, enforcing governance through system permissions, and interfacing with external technology support at HP or internal experts at Corbis. Throw in some administrative details like ensuring that photographers and videographers provide contracts and invoices as well as final deliverables, and I have a very full day indeed!
What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?
Although my entire SLIS experience applies to my day-to-day, the most useful courses for me were Vocabulary Design, Digital Asset Management and the Seminar in Metadata. I also have employed several facets of the Research Methods course in aiding discovery on user experience issues.
