Dr. Susan Aber

Lecturer

Susan Aber is a geologist, gemologist, and map librarian who received her Ph.D. in Library and Information Science at Emporia State University (ESU - Kansas). She has taught in the ESU Earth Science Department for over 20 years, and her LIS dissertation focused on the information needs and information-seeking behaviors of geoscience educators in the academic community. She has managed the ESU Federal Depository Map Library for over 10 years and has taught for the library school as National Faculty at ESU since completing her doctorate.

Aber teaches many of her classes in an online format on the LIS topics of information resources and services in the disciplines, and map librarianship, including geographic information systems. Her research interests are in information use and user studies, as well as the scientific visualization of information using kite aerial photography (KAP - www.geospectra.net/kite) and amber (www.emporia.edu/earthsci/amber). Susan travels extensively and has won a prestigious award, along with her colleague and husband, from the American Association for the Advancement of Science/National Science Foundation for their KAP work on an Estonian bog.
