Heather H. EbeyLecturer Heather Ebey has been involved in computers and programming for over 24 years. She began with computer classes at the Harvard Extension School. After moving to San Diego, she was hired as a microcomputer consultant at the University of California, San Diego, where she guided faculty, students, and staff in using both Macintosh and PC systems. After numerous courses in Unix system administration and C programming, she moved to the Unix Systems Group, where she was responsible for Unix system administration on over 100 HP-UX, SunOS, and Solaris servers and workstations. She has written or modified code in C, PHP, Perl, and various shell scripting languages to meet faculty and staff needs. While pursuing her MLIS degree, Heather had the good fortune to assist on the team that redesigned the SLIS Web site and wrote a lot of PHP server-side code. Her primary interests are Web programming languages, Web accessibility issues, and immersive metaverses — like InWorldz and Second Life — as learning platforms. As of September 2011, she is building a virtual community library in InWorldz. Upon graduation, Heather was inducted into Beta Phi Mu, the library and information studies honor society.
