Dr. Cherie Givens
Lecturer
Cherie Givens was awarded her Ph.D. in Library, Archival and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia in November, 2009. She is an attorney-at-law with a particular interest in First Amendment issues and laws affecting libraries and archives. Cherie has written and presented on issues related to social policy, intellectual freedom, and the First Amendment.
Cherie's other research interests include public policy, information policy, publishing, children's and young adult literature, and cultural studies. Her dissertation explores the phenomenon of censorship prior to publication of the works of children's and young adult authors and illustrators, with particular focus on the lived experiences of Canadian children's and young adult authors. She has held library positions in academic, legal, public, and special libraries.
