Dr. Geoffrey Z. Liu

Associate Professor

Geoffrey Z. Liu received his Ph.D. in communications and information sciences at University of Hawaii at Manoa. His B.A. and M.A. degrees in library and information science were from Wuhan University, China. He taught at the Central-China Normal University for two years and worked briefly as a cataloging librarian at the Meader Library of Hawaii Pacific University (Hawaii) and a research statistician in the Hawaii State Department of Health & Human Services.

Liu's main research interests are information retrieval (system design) and information seeking behaviors. He has recently published on virtual communities and school library developments. He teaches technology-related courses in a primarily online format.

Liu has given numerous workshop/conference presentations on digital libraries and information technology at Chinese universities and libraries. He has been actively involved with the Evergreen Education Foundation, a non-profit organization in the San Francisco Bay Area, in projects of school library automation and rural community information services. He currently serves as a technology adviser for Stanford University's East Asia Library and the Provincial Library of Yunnan in China.
