Dr. Brooke E. Sheldon

Lecturer

Brooke Sheldon was most recently Director of the School of Information Resources and Library Science at the University of Arizona. From 1991 to 1999 she was Dean and Professor of the School of Information (then LIS) at the University of Texas at Austin and at Texas Woman's University (1977-91). Professional experiences include Head of Library Development, NM State Library, positions in public and Armed Forces libraries in Colorado Springs, Albuquerque, and Germany. She holds the Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees from Acadia University, Simmons College, and the University of Pittsburgh respectively. In 1984 she was awarded the DCL from Acadia.

In 2005 The University of Texas created the Brooke E. Sheldon Professorship in Leadership. Her research and teaching center around leadership/management; interpersonal communications. She is the author of Leaders in Libraries: styles and strategies for success ALA, 1991, and Library Education in the United States Mansell, 1997.

In 1984 she was President of the American Library Association.
