Orange County Library Association Scholarship
OCLA awards a $500 scholarship to a San José State University, School of Library Science student in even numbered years. The scholarship recipient will be announced in May and the scholarship will be awarded at OCLA's spring meeting.
Applicants meeting the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
- Orange County resident or employed in a library located in Orange County
- Must have completed the three core courses with a B grade or better in each course
- Must be in good standing with the SLIS Program and not have any outstanding incompletes
Students may not apply during their last semester in the program.
Selection of the scholarship will be based on the following:
- Academic achievement, including GPA
- Number of courses completed
- Membership, activity, and support in professional and/or community organizations
- Scholarly contributions to the discipline of library and information science through written work and projects
- Quality of essay (writing style and intellectual content)
Applicants should submit a resume and an essay not exceeding four pages that describes their personal background and professional goals and explains how their course work, professional activities, and/or extracurricular activities in which they are involved demonstrate the ways in which they are contributing to the program and the profession.
