Connecting Geographically with SLISLife Users

SJSU SLIS is proud to have students, alumni, and faculty spread not only through the United States, but also the world. Using SLISLife groups, you can connect with other users nearby, no matter where you are.

From the SLISLife homepage, click on the "Groups" button from the menu bar at the top.

Groups Homepage

This will take you to the Groups homepage. On the top of the page, the first section you see will read "Group Categories." There are two categories that allow students to connect geographically. Users in the United States should click on the category "Countries and Regional (United States)." International users should click on the category "Countries and Regional (International)."

Groups Home

This will bring up a list of existing groups. There are currently groups for every US state and for all continents throughout the world. Since so many SLIS students come from California, there are separate groups for the Northern and Southern parts of the state. Scroll down the list until you find the group that represents your location, and click on it.

US Groups

The individual page for each group will display a list of members. Towards the bottom of the page, on the left side, you will see a link saying "Join." Click this link to join the group.

Join Group

Once you are a member of a group, you can write a blog for the group or use the group messageboard to start a regional-based discussion with other users.
