Employers
Use the links below to get started. If you have questions about posting a job or the requested information, please contact Sherri Bowman at the Career Center (sherri.bowman@sjsu.edu, 408–924–6027).
- To register and post a position for the first time, go to www.careercenter.sjsu.edu
- Click on "Employers" (top horizontal menu)
- Click on "First Time Sign In" (left hand vertical menu)
- Select the tab "Register and Post a Job". Be careful to select that tab, which allows you to register and AND post at the same time. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you select the "Register and Post a Job" tab and not the "Register" only tab. Selecting the "Register and Post a Job" tab lets you post immediately; selecting the "Register" only tab delays your job posting.
- The Registration Form is one page; the second page lets you post a job. Please be sure to include in your job description how you want candidates to apply for the position. Once you submit a job, it will be reviewed and posted within one business day.
- You will then be a registered employer, and can go to the SpartaJOBS website and sign in by clicking the "Registered User Sign–In" link to post, edit, or re–post a career opportunity.

Current Students
SJSU Career Center SpartaSystem for Students Sign In Web page is the one-stop place for SLIS students to login to find a career position. Both regular session and special students have access through their student ID (see below).
Regular session students: Use your SJSU student ID (also called Tower ID) for both username and password.
Special session students: Use your SJSU student ID beginning with two zeros (00) for both username and password.
For current or new students who are not being recognized: ID numbers won't be valid until 2 days after fees for the current semester have been paid.
A Short List of What is Available on SpartaJOBS
Once logged in, you will have access to SpartaJOBS where you can
- Post your resume and have it critiqued.
- Review career positions posted by employers. Important: see Search Tips below.
- Apply for a position.
- Create a Search Agent that will watch for specific kinds of jobs and send you an e-mail alert when a new job meeting your search criteria is listed. Step-by-step directions on creating a personal Search Agent are in the lower part of the SpartaJOBS Sign In Web page.
Find out how to...
- Start the job hunt — Get an overview of what you need to know.
- Prepare a resume — View a presentation or learn about action verbs.
- Prepare for the interview — Create a "One-Minute Commercial" (a.k.a. "the elevator speech").
- Dress for success — Wear the right clothes to the interview. Review business etiquette for having lunch with a potential employer.
- Research an employer — Make sure the employer is a good fit before you apply for a job opening. Show knowledge about the company in the interview or write your cover letter.

Alumni
Searching for a new job opportunity?
SLIS Alumni are eligible for a one–semester complimentary SpartaJOBS membership immediately following graduation. To activate this, recent graduates should complete the CC_Alumni_Member_App.pdf [PDF] application form and fax it to the number at the bottom of the page (408–924–6099).
Recent graduates: Check the box for Complimentary Career Center Membership near the bottom of the application form. SLIS graduates have a one semester complimentary membership for the semester following graduation. For May graduates, the membership is through December.
Alumni (other than Recent graduates): Select the appropriate box (either the Annual Career Center Membership - $25 or the Free Annual Career Center Membership with SJSU Alumni Association Membership) on the application form.
SJSU SLIS Alumni can either pay an annual fee of $25 per year for access to a Career Center membership and SpartaJOBS, or join the SJSU Alumni Association, which includes a free annual complimentary access to SpartaJOBS.
You can use SpartaJOBS to...
- Search for jobs. Important: see Search Tips below.
- Set up search agents for e-mail notification when new jobs in a category of interest are posted.
- Post your resume online.
- Have your resume referred to interested employers.
- Include your resume in a candidate pool to be reviewed by employers.
SpartaJOBS Search Tips
How to search the SpartaJOBS postings for LIS jobs:
- log in
- click on Jobs tab; then click on SpartaJOBS from the pull-down menu
- for "Majors⁄Concentrations", pull-down and select Library and Information Science
- click the "yes" button for "Include Only Selected Major" [this is important]
- click "Search" at bottom of page. This will bring up all the LIS postings
