Hello, SJSU SLIS owns an "island" in the Second Life virtual environment. It is used for experiments in library programs, simulation exercises, exhibits and professional networking: http://slurl.com/secondlife/SJSU%20SLIS/128/128 Starting this Spring, the school is setting aside a large portion of the "island" for use by students for personal projects. They will own plots of land totaling 512m and not be required to pay regular land prices. The program is open to a limited number of students - about 15 to start. As a digital homesteader, you will keep the land through the term and are free to be as creative as you like. This grant is only available to current and incoming SJSU SLIS students. As a recipient of the land grant, you will own the land and everything built on it. To apply, please fill out the application survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=X30SsYJRfgWH05kEQLWb1g_3d_3d The last day to apply for the land grant is Sunday, March 2nd. Grant recipients will be notified on or before Wednesday, March 4th. Please contact Bernd Becker at berndwbecker@yahoo.com or Jeremy Kemp at jkemp@slis.sjsu.edu with any questions about the program and application survey. -- SLIS Second Life team
