[edit] Setting up the server

Install the Sloodle module on a Moodle server. See the Installing the Sloodle Module page for details.

[edit] Getting the objects

As of Sloodle version 0.2 (released in December 2007), we have an automated object distribution system which utilises the Sloodle Object Distributor object. If you have previously registered your avatar with Sloodle.org (e.g. by using a Registration Booth or Sloodle Toolbar which was linked to Sloodle.org), then you can use our Moodle Distribution Interface at the following address:

http://www.sloodle.org/get_objects.php

Alternatively, you can get the objects in-world by going to the "Install Sloodle" section of Sloodleville (it is the far North-Eastern corner of the "virtuALBA" sim). You will see information displays, and a Sloodle Object Selector, which you can click to choose the object you want.

[edit] Configuring the objects

Each object that talks to Moodle will need to know where your Moodle server is, and how to prove to the Moodle server that it is allowed to talk to it. Most objects also need to know which Moodle course they should use.

Each object in the Sloodle Set will check for a notecard called sloodle_config. If it finds one, it will use the settings defined in that notecard.

To avoid the need to configure each object individually with its own notecard, you can just configure the notecard in the Sloodle Set, then use the Sloodle Set to rez the other objects. The objects it rezzes will inherit its configuration.

To get the contents of the notecard, go to http://your.moodle.install/mod/sloodle/sl_setup_notecard.php ...and choose a course. This will give you a notecard for that server / course that you can copy/paste into your Sloodle object.

The copy you receive may already include a notecard configuring it for a test server. Delete this notecard and create a new one with your own settings.

After you've made a change, click the control panel (the sloping bit) and click "Reset" to have those changes take effect.

You can then click the vending machine (the upright box) to rez individual objects.

[edit] Authenticating avatars

Before it lets your avatar use Moodle functionality, Sloodle needs to link each avatar that will be using it to a Moodle account.

Click the vending machine and rez a "Registration Booth".

When an avatar clicks the Registration Booth, it will check if they are registered in Sloodle.

If they're not registered, it will send them to a web page and ask them to login / register.

  • If you turn on automatic registration in the /mod/sloodle/sl_setup.php page, new avatars will be registered automatically.
