This Sloodle article is deprecated. It is probably out of date and will not be updated. It continues to exist only for reference purposes.

The Sloodle Classroom is an area where access is controlled for avatars coming in and out.

This object has been renamed the Sloodle Access Checker, since all it does at the moment is check access to the course - Edmund, 2007-07-06

(In the future it will probably do much more than this...)

Contents

Part A

Checks if it knows who the avatar is.

  • If the avatar is already registered in Sloodle, it goes straight to (B).
  • If the avatar isn't yet registered in Sloodle, it will do one of the following, depending on how the administrator has setup your Sloodle module:

Step 1

  • If auto-registration is switched off (this is the default), it gives the avatar a URL to click to open a web page which will tell Moodle who they are.
  • If they are not currently logged in, they will need to login to Moodle, or register there if they do not yet have an account. In most cases, once they have completed the login/registration process, they will be taken automatically to the page which tells Moodle who their avatar is.

Note: Some Moodle sites require new users to confirm their e-mail address by clicking a link in an e-mail. In this case, they will not be automatically brought back to the avatar-registration page.

Step 2

  • If auto-registration is switched on, a new Moodle user will be created automatically using the avatar's name and Second Life e-mail address.
  • Currently, although a password is automatically generated for users like this, but it is not sent to the user, so they will be unable to login to Moodle on the web.

Part B

Checks if the avatar is signed up for the course.

  • If the user is enrolled on the course, the Sloodle Classroom will welcome them to class.
  • If the user is not enrolled on the course but enrollment for that course is permitted, the Sloodle Classroom will tell them that they need to signup for the course.
  • If the user is not enrolled on the course and the course does not allow them to enrol themselves, the Sloodle Classroom will tell them.

Note: At this point it would be technically possible to enforce access to the class. The Sloodle Classroom could either push the avatar away, force them off the land or teleport them home. Currently, it does not do any of those things.
