Getting Set Up

There are a couple of things to notice:

1. At right are two sets of controls which make everything in Second Life easier: movement controls & camera controls. You find these by going to the "view" menu and checking the desired control option. Once selected they stay that way until you change them.

2. To actually change your avatar's appearance you right click (alternate menu) on yourself. You can also select the "edit" menu and click on "appearance" to achieve the same affect. In the 1st image you can see that doing this on the avatar gives a number options shown as pie wedges. We will select "appearance" to change how we look. When you do so, you get the software dialog shown in the image below. Also notice that the movement and camera controls can be placed anywhere on the desktop; this allows you to "look" at yourself from different angles (very helpful to see how others will see you).
