Initial Commands to Master Moving Around in Second Life

When you first login you'll appear on an orientation island, which walks you thru getting started. Avoid the temptation to skip this- and spend some time going thru it. You'll use these basics for the rest of your (second) life. Basic controls you should be familiar with:

  • clicking on your avatar and moving the mouse
  • scroll wheels when you are clicking on something and when you are not
  • right clicking on your avatar, other avatars, and objects
  • the home key (fly/stop flying)
  • page up/ page down (fly up/fly down)
  • the click-alt combo (centers the object clicked on the screen)
  • the click-ctrl-alt combo (centers the object and allows you to rotate around it)
  • the click-ctrl-alt-shift combo (pans the scene in the direction you drag the mouse)
