Role of the Director and Associate Director

(As of February 18, 2006)

The director is selected by the School's faculty to perform the administrative duties necessary to the successful conduct of their duties and the health and well-being of the School. The director is the elected representative of School colleagues, and thus the director is primarily accountable to the faculty members who elected the director.

The role of the director is to provide overall leadership for the various programs and faculty in the School, and to facilitate the teaching, research, professional development, and the service of the School to a variety of publics.

As a leader, the director facilitates the articulation of a vision to foster the School’s creative development and enables annual strategic planning and goal-setting. The director is responsible for the academic welfare of the School.

The director champions School welfare and promotes the School, its faculty and its students, both within and outside the University. The director participates in university governance at all levels, organizes and participates in School committees, serves on the executive council of the College, and represents the School in (and to) various College and University bodies.
