In May 2017, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation shared some exciting news that is of particular interest to the archives and preservation community: a massive project aimed at the long-term digital preservation of all of the CBC’s and Radio-Canada’s physical media assets. Combined, this includes over 1 million audio, video, and film assets.

The project is slated to begin in winter 2018 and is estimated to take at least five years. With the guidance of industry leading suppliers and an increase in staff , CBC/Radio-Canada is excited that the partnership will ensure the longevity of its historical content. CBC intends to hire “a number” of new staff and Radio-Canada plans to add approximately 20 positions through the duration of the project. MARA students and graduates, both in Canada and abroad, should take note of this exciting opportunity!
