The theme of change resonates in the 14th issue of the San José State University School of Information Student Research Journal. Starting with the introduction of the journal’s new title to include the school’s name, Editor-in-Chief Holley Cornetto identifies both change that is happening, and change that is inevitable in the field of library and information science.

Cornetto writes, “As we begin a new year, our thoughts naturally incline toward stepping into the future, and change – change in who we are, who we want to be, and what we want to achieve.”

The invited contribution from Bernd Becker, an associate librarian at the San José State University Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, discusses how information literacy is evolving and what that means for librarians as they shoulder the responsibilities of digital literacy alongside traditional approaches to information literacy. His paper serves to dispel the myths and outline some basic principles of information literacy learning and instruction in the digital age.

Graduate student Patricia Mars’ essay was selected for the issue after the double-blind review process. Her article discusses gender demographics and perceptions, examining gender issues and stereotypes that predominate the library and information science profession. The article takes a look at the lack of female leaders and executives in the LIS field, despite the fact that women dominate the profession. Mars discusses options for change to combat gender perceptions that negatively impact women in the profession.
