Student Assistantships
SLIS students are eligible for a variety of paid student assistantships that involve working with faculty on different projects. Examples of the kinds of projects that student assistants are involved with are:
- Designing and running social networking software (a MySpace for SLIS)
- Building faculty offices in Second Life
- Building learning spaces in Second Life that connect to the Web
- Building and managing a recruitment center in Second Life for SLIS
- Supporting the internship coordinator by running blogs and developing Web resources
- Supporting research in booktalking and controversial fiction
- Supporting research on making Elluminate real time discussions available in real time to hearing-impaired students. The project uses Dragon Naturally Speaking.
- Becoming student peer trainers in Elluminate
- Supporting faculty in Elluminate by handling the technology during classes
- Supporting faculty in Second Life by handling the technology during classes
- Researching and writing history projects
- Working with the SLIS Web Technologist
