The Concept

The San José State University School of Library and Information Science is the largest accredited graduate program in Library and Information Science in the world, with more than 2,200 graduate students in the MLIS degree program. Students come from more than 40 U.S. states and 12 countries. The School houses a Center for Research, Innovation and Education, and has an active roster of productive scholars.

The San José State University School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) is partnering with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), a well-regarded and recognized research institution, to offer an external doctoral degree program to a small cohort of academics and professionals already holding an appropriate and recognized graduate degree.

Since the San José State University School of Library and Information Science is limited by state legislation to master's level instruction and research supervision, this partnership enables SLIS to offer the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Ph.D. program with San José faculty, through residencies and distance learning, with on-site components at San José.
