Graduate students at the San José State University School of Library and Information Science are encouraged to get involved in the student chapters of professional associations. It's a great way to meet peers, gain experience for resume building, and network.
SJSU SLIS offers student chapters of the American Library Association (ALA), American Society for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T), and Society of American Archivists (SAA). Our student chapters have won numerous awards recognizing their excellence and their innovative approach to serving online students, including the 2012 ASIS&T Student Chapter of the Year. Current SLIS students can also join the combined student and alumni group, SLISConnect.
Many student groups host meet-ups, special events, and networking opportunities, both virtual and in-person. Check the SJSU SLIS Facebook page often for updates about upcoming events. You can also find interesting pins for our School's student chapters of professional associations on the SJSU SLIS Pinterest board dedicated to student groups.
