SLIS provides myriad opportunities for extracurricular involvement, and points to many more with professional associations. -- Spring 2012 graduate
Graduate students at the San José State University School of Library and Information Science are encouraged to get involved in the student chapters of professional associations. It's a great way to meet peers, gain experience for resume building, and network.
The information school at San José State University offers student chapters of the American Library Association (ALA), Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T), Society of American Archivists (SAA), and Special Libraries Association (SLA). Current graduate students in the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and Master of Archives and Records Administration (MARA) programs at San José State University can also join the combined student and alumni group, SLISConnect.
The information school's student chapters have won numerous awards recognizing their excellence and their innovative approach to serving online students, including the 2014 ALASC Student Chapter of the Year and the 2012 ASIS&T Student Chapter of the Year.
Many of the information school's student groups host meet-ups, special events, and networking opportunities – both virtual and in-person. Check the SJSU SLIS Facebook page often for updates about upcoming events and the Pinterest board for fun pins. The SJSU SLIS student groups also have their own websites and social pages.
