The SJSU School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) offers unmatched opportunities to learn the field in educational formats that are as varied as they are stimulating. Students come to SLIS from all over the United States and around the globe, creating a diverse student community.

See Comparison of California MLIS Accredited Programs for a comparison of SJSU School of Library and Information Science with other accredited California MLIS programs.

Just as there is no template for the ideal SLIS student, there is also no such thing as a model candidate for admission. Each year, 700 students worldwide, who cover a wide range of interests and backgrounds, begin the SJSU SLIS Program. Some have a wealth of work experience; others are recent college graduates. Regardless of background, this diversity helps to enhance the learning experience for all. If there is one thing our students have in common, it is a demonstrated desire to learn, contribute and provide leadership in the field.

Candidates are evaluated on their accomplishments and their potential. If you think that the School of Library and Information Science may be right for you, we encourage you to carefully review this section of our Web site to be sure you are familiar with all the information about submitting a complete application.
