"Links to Literacy: Libraries Building Bridges to the Community" will be offered at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library in cooperation with the San Mateo COE, Santa Clara COE, SJSU King Library, and the San Jose Public Library System. This literacy summit will offer concurrent sessions of interest to both school library staff and public librarians.

Featured speakers include:

  • Barbara Jeffus, of the California Department of Education
  • Walter (the Giant Storyteller)
  • Valerie Lewis, a frequent visitor on the "CBS Morning Show" and co-owner of Hicklebees Bookstore in San Jose
  • Anthony Bernier, Assistant Professor, School of Library and Information Science, San Jose State University

Summit offerings include sessions on content literacy, "HotShelving" (specialized YA shelving techniques), storytelling, book-to-film releases, hands-on sessions presented by staff from the San Francisco Center for the Book and many more! Also, look for the special session for school library staff to connect with their local public librarians for the opportunity to talk children's library programming and possibilities for cooperation.
