BSISDA Advising

For current students in all programs, advising appointments are available virtually and are scheduled via Spartan Connect.

Students can also contact Dr. Frank Cervone, BSISDA 2-year program coordinator, with any content questions related to course selection and career path.

For transfer students, the counselors in the SJSU Online office are available to assist with questions about San José State University and its programs, as well as the admissions process.

Some things to note

• The 2-year BSISDA degree completion program for transfer students is completely online and runs in Special Session.
• Tuition and fees for the 2-year program are currently $450 a unit (credit hour).
• Tuition and fees for the 4-year program are available from the Bursar’s office (https://www.sjsu.edu/bursar/)
• All advising is conducted online.
• Students in the 2-year program are only eligible for some on campus services (e.g., library, tutoring).
• Attending orientation after admission to the program is required.
• Students may be eligible for financial aid. Eligibility will depend on the program they are enrolled in.

Requirements for a change of major to a BSISDA program

Students requesting a change of major must meet certain requirements. Students who do not meet these requirements will be not considered for a change of major. These requirements include:

• Students must be in good academic status. That is, the student must not be on University Academic Notice.
• The students must have a SJSU cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater regardless of program selected.
• Students with 90 units or more will not be considered in accordance with Presidential Directive 2009­-05.

Students who are enrolled in a regular session program and want to switch to the BSISDA 4-year regular session program, should complete this form

Students who are enrolled in an SJSU Online program (special session) and would like to transition to an SJSU in-person program (regular session) must reapply to the university by completing a Cal State Apply Application.

Students already attending the university and have 60 credit hours or more (in regular session) or are in another SJSU online program may change to the 2-year degree completion program via SJSU Online by contacting the SJSU Online advising team for more information.

University Academic Notice and Disqualification

GPA requirements

All undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 or higher in order to remain in good academic standing and to graduate. 

The overall GPA is different from a semester GPA. The overall GPA is your cumulative GPA that you earn starting from the first semester as an undergraduate student at SJSU. It is the GPA that takes into account the GPA earned for all previous semesters. The semester GPA is your GPA that is calculated on a semester-by-semester basis.

University Academic Notice

An undergraduate student will be placed on University Academic Notice if their SJSU GPA falls below 2.0.

A status of Academic Notice indicates that the student is not performing to minimum undergraduate GPA standards and may be disqualified from the university if their academic performance does not improve.

Once on University Academic Notice, undergraduate students are subject to disqualification if they fail to earn a SJSU term GPA of 2.0 or better each semester until a SJSU cumulative GPA of 2.0 is again established. See: www.sjsu.edu/senate/S16-16E.pdf.
