TL Qualifying for the Program

Overview

Qualifying for the California Teacher Librarian Services Credential Program

Candidates must have a California Clear Professional Teaching Credential before applying for the California Teacher Librarian Services Credential. Students are not eligible for the certification without a California Clear Professional Teaching Credential even if they have completed the program’s course work.

If you do not live in the State of California, it is necessary to contact the certifying agency in your state to confirm the requirements for a Teacher Librarian Services Credential. We cannot certify paperwork for other states if you do not have a California Clear Professional Teaching Credential. States that accept course work or an MLIS are exempt.

A sample question might be, “Do I have to complete a program making me eligible for an endorsement in the home institution state or is course work sufficient?” If the answer is that you need to meet all of the requirements for a California Teacher Librarian Services Credential, you will need the following:

  • A valid California Clear Professional Teaching Credential
  • Basic Skills Authorization
  • English Language Learner Authorization

Please see the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for more information.
